Donny O'Rourke's poetry has a jazzy, upbeat note to it, with the strains of Ireland and America in the background. There are more reflective poems on parents, grief, loss, renewal, and losing weight (or not). O'Rourke's self-deprecating style is appealing, moving from one sensibility to the next, and concerned with the acts of giving and receiving, transmitting culture, ideas and thoughts. This is a wide and generous poetry.
