It is May, 1942 and the Nazis, the Japanese and the Italians have invaded the United States homeland. Hitler has not invaded Russia and has conquered Great Britain, isolating America. American forces are stranded in Europe and Southeast Asia. The American continent has been left in the hands of only those who did not join or were not drafted into the military as war broke out in Europe in 1941. Germans, under Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, land in Mexico and invade the US through Texas. The Japanese have landed in Canada and make their way down the West Coast as far as San Francisco. The Italians, en masse in Cuba, mount a naval assault on Miami Beach. There is a plot in Washington to overthrow FDR and submit to the invading forces. Amid the panic and fear, common people rise to the occasion and defend their homeland. The novel is a panorama of conflicting forces pointing out not only the enemy from without but the even more terrible enemy within.
