世紀之交最後一批被淘汰（death）的帆船，幾乎完全受自然條件（貿易風）的支配。整個voyage被將死之人wait籠罩（將在看到第一片陸地之後死去），就像voyage被最後的telos籠罩，就像narrative被最後的closure籠罩，現實中康拉德被ddl籠罩...。水仙號在風暴和calmness中move back and forth, 敘述視角也是如此（在第一和第三人稱之間，在單數和復數之間，過去和現在之間），敘述節奏也是如此，句子的語法和長短交錯也是如此，不是有點像wave和tide而不是假想中總是嚮前的曆史河流。
