聽作者本人的描述以為小說重在探索Qui-Gon和Obi-Wan初期師徒關係，沒有預料到星際政治元素也很濃，好在不算喧賓奪主而且也影射現實。但是Dooku的戲份比預期輕了很多，有些遺憾。總體上是一段發生在前傳之前很有趣的小插曲，雖然作者對尾聲的處理有點倉促，和主線故事的聯係也不夠明顯。
