狄德罗（1713～1784），18世纪法国唯物主义哲学家，美学家，文学家，百科全书派代表人物，第一部法国《百科全书》主编。 狄德罗生于郎格里。1732年获得巴黎大学文科硕士学位。他精通意、英等几国文字，以译述A.A.C.沙夫茨伯里的《德性研究》而著称。狄德罗在主编《百科全书》的25年中，深受F.培根T.霍布斯和J.洛克等人思想的影响，尤其是培根关于编辑百科全书的思想，促使他坚定地献身于《百科全书》的事业。狄德罗除主编《百科全书》外，还撰写了大量著作，在他的《哲学思想录》、《对自然的解释》、《怀疑者漫步》、《论盲人书简》、《生理学的基础》、《拉摩的侄儿》、《关于物质和运动的哲学原理》、《达朗贝尔和狄德罗的谈话》、《宿命论者让·雅克和他的主人》、《驳斥爱尔维修<论人>的著作》等著作中，表述了他的唯物主义哲学思想；在他的《美之根源及性质的哲学的研究》、《论戏剧艺术》、《谈演员》、《绘画论》、《天才》等著作中，表述了他的“美在关系”的美学思想。

狄德罗的文学创作有小说《修女》、《拉摩的侄儿》和《宿命论者雅克和他的主人》。此外，还发表过一部长篇小说《泄露隐情的首饰》和一些短篇故事，如《他与我》、《蒲保纳的两个朋友》、《这不是小说》等。
