不是抱着研究甲骨文或者商代社会的心态看这本书的。只是听说这本书是一部极佳的使用结构主义符号主义等新考古学理论研究商代社会的学习范例，想学习一下研究方法，借鉴一下角度。我没有看过很多关于晚商甲骨文研究的资料，所以做评本来应该是很没有发言权的，但是还是想来说说...

David Keightley的学问不错，我一直不知道为何他的书没怎么翻译过来。他的研究早期中国，有一种世界考古学的比较眼光。他认为，中国早期文字的出现，完全是宗教的原因，这一点与西亚是不同的。

选了课的关系，完整翻译了这本书的第七章和附录，吉德炜先生很有自己的想法，不过这本书更像是一本人类学专著，和古文字扯不上太大关系。
