This book was designed for use in introductory computer science or programming

classes that use the Turbo Pascal language. It can be used with versions 5.0, 5.5, or 6.0

of Turbo Pascal in courses as short as one quarter or as long as one academic year.

It includes a thorough intro,iuction to basic computer science and software engineer-

ing issues as well as a complete description of the Turbo Pascal environment and lan-

guage. It assumes no knowledge of computers and no mathematics beyond high school

algebra.

This is the seventh in a series of introductory textbooks I have written featuring the

Pascal languages. Each book is an introduction to computer science and programming.

Each new edition was written to accommodate the changing needs of its users, pri-

marily changes in the Pascal language and new developments in both computer science

methodology and in computer science education. This new edition was written to take

full advantage of the features of version 6.0 of Turbo Pascal and to accommodate a

trend toward the inclusion of more conceptual material in introductory computer sci-

ence courses.
