From School Library Journal Kindergarten-Grade 2-A bunny named Marigold and her grandmother spend a delightful spring day together buying a hat, feeding ducks, having lunch, and getting their pictures taken. The loving intergenerational relationship is well represented in the text and in the appealing, pastel-toned watercolor illustrations. An all-around, year-round choice for one-on-one sharing or easy reading. From Booklist Gr. 1-2, younger for reading aloud. In this gentle, episodic story in the I Can Read series, Marigold, a bunny, and her grandmother spend a day downtown. Marigold finds a spring bonnet she adores, but it squishes her ears until resourceful Grandma borrows scissors from the saleslady and cuts rabbit-size ear holes in the hat. Next, Marigold becomes annoyed with the wind when it blows her hat away, then blows back the bread Marigold tries to toss to the ducks in the pond. Wise and loving, Grandma shows Marigold how to make the wind her friend. Fortunately, Grandma has a sense of humor, too, balancing the book's sweetness with her own brand of wit, particularly in the third and fourth episodes. Chalmers' sunny illustrations feature watercolors in spring-bright hues. Preschoolers will like listening to the book just as much as their older siblings will enjoy reading it.
