Many sports histories and biographies of individual athletes are likely to provide as much or more information on the careers of these and other popular stars of baseball， basket ball， football， and ice hockey. Brought into focus in Ultramarathons are those races which call for even greater stami na and courage than an ordinary mara thonreaching distances of up to 200 miles in a single contest or forcing com petitors to brave intense heat， extreme cold， high altitudes over sometimes im passable terrain. From the ``Iron Man Triathalon'' to the informal ``Grand Canyon Double Traverse，'' these courses and their contestants inspire amazement.
