From School Library Journal Grade 6 Up-- This has to be compared to Delia Ray's Gold! The Klondike Adventure (Lodestar, 1989), as both are about the Yukon/Klondike gold rush of 1896-98 and cover essentially the same material in the same chronological way. Cooper includes a good bibliography of adult sources--no children's books; Ray has no bibliography. Writing style and content are about equal--Ray may be a mite more anecdotal. Same size books, type size, layout; Ray offers a few more pages. The chief difference lies in photo illustrations. With a couple of exceptions, they are not duplicated. This makes the books complementary: students who read one will enjoy looking at and comparing photographs in the other. Both are fine books. --George Gleason, Department of English, Southwest Missouri State University, SpringfieldCopyright 1990 Reed Business Information, Inc. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
