John Paxton, who joined the
publication in 1963 and became
editor in 1969, is in constant touch
with the affairs of every country, and
provides extensive data from official,
semi-official and private sources.
He is editor of The Statesman s
Year-Book Historical Companion
He also compiled The Statesman s
Year-Book World Gazetteer, now in
its third edition, and has written
many books on European affairs
including A Dictionary of the
European Communitie~ Companion
to Russian History and Companion
to the French Revolution.
He was a member of the executive
committee of the English Centre of
International PEN from 1970-76 and
joint-treasurer from 1971-76. John
Paxton is at present working on
a definitive bibliography of the
European Communities. He lives in
Somerset ata~l is married with two
