The Psalms have always held a special place in the affection of Israel.
The people of God rejoiced and lamented together by singing the
Psalms. The early Christians discovered the Psalms to be an integral link
to their heritage as well.
A psalm was the expression of joy uttered by Augustine at his con-
version, and a psalm was the consolation on his lips as he lay upon his
death bed. Chrysostom comforted himself in exile by quoting the
Psahns. John Hus had a psalm on his lips as he was burned at the stake.
Reciting a psalm, Luther entered the Diet of Worms, prepared to defy
the Church and stand by faith alone.
But the Psahns have meant much more to us than affection or moti-
vation. They also have been a significant source of inspiration. A. C.
Gabelein used to say, "A psalm a day keeps worry away." Many of us
have found the Psalms to be an excellent source of comfort, of courage,
of strength.
Strength and hope for our spiritual journey is the goal of Warren
Wiersbe in this daily devotional on the Psalms, and he succeeds very
well. Writing in his own practical and interesting style, Dr. Wiersbe
brings us to the banquet table and serves a heaping portion of God s
blessing and strength through each psalm. Every reader will be blessed,
but more than that, every reader will be instructed, motivated, inspired
and challenged.
Here you will find daily food in abundance--good food, tasty food,
food to fuel your Christian life. If a psalm a day does keep worry away,
who of us can afford to be without one? This devotional book will ensure
that your minimum daily Psalms requirement is met. Bon appetit!
