From Library Journal This second edition of Babysense ( LJ 11/1/79) provides a compact guide to the theory and practice of parenting an infant. Quoting experts and parents, Burck addresses such broad concerns as getting acquainted with one's baby and adjusting to motherhood. She also focuses on such practical tasks as feeding, finding the best child care, safety, and health care. Although Burck is ruthless in recounting the rigors of infant care, her tone is warm, supportive, and reassuring throughout the book. The format is lively, with numerous sidebars, recommended reading lists, and illustrations, but, as an oversize volume, it is too bulky to read without propping. Recommended. The warm, reassuring tone is echoed in 300 Questions New Parents Ask , a compilation of the most frequently asked parenting questions this radio talk show team gets. The entries are interesting and informative. Although this work lacks the sheer density of information found in Babysense , the authors are well known and respected as child care experts--this is William Sears's ninth book on infancy for consumers--so there may be potential demand.- Kathryn Hammell Carpenter, Univ. of Illinois, ChicagoCopyright 1991 Reed Business Information, Inc.
