From School Library Journal PreS?The fact that laughter is infectious and that a good guffaw rebounds on its initiator are certainly observations worthy of exploring. But there is no genuine laughter here. A child describes the effect of her laughter on her family and neighbors, but Bowdish's minimal text is lifeless, its images flat and uninspired. Though portrayed in active poses, Gaffney-Kessell's figures are heavy and static and inconsistent in appearance. His paintings have a shadowy angularity that is "haunting," indeed, and thoroughly inappropriate to the subject. A book that broadly misses its mark.?Marcia Hupp, Mamaroneck Public Library, NYCopyright 1996 Reed Business Information, Inc. From Booklist Ages 2^-4. The joy of infectious laughter is the theme of this picture book. There's no real story, just a small girl telling how her laughter reaches everyone in her family and on her street. She makes them laugh with her. The smiling portraits are superreal, set within wonderfully detailed 3-D settings that open up windows and doors to light and texture and surprising perspective.
