I WAS WORKING at my desk on the morning of October 3o&iuml;&frac14;&OElig;<br />

replies&iuml;&frac14;&OElig; when my phone rang. It was a friend of mine&iuml;&frac14;&OElig; an<br />

attorney. He was speaking from New York.<br />

&quot;Leon&iuml;&frac14;&OElig;&quot; he said&iuml;&frac14;&OElig; &quot;you re going to get a call shortly from<br />

General Alexander Haig at the White House. He s going to try<br />

to persuade you to accept the job of Watergate Special Prose-<br />
