From Library Journal The inventor of the isolation tank and famed dolphin advocate has built quite a reputation for himself during his 74 years. Two films based roughly on his work and experience ( Altered States and Day of the Dolphin ) have assured his notoriety. Trained as an M.D., Lilly has spent a lifetime seeking an understanding of how the mind functions. He has immersed himself in psychoanalysis, sensory deprivation, dolphin communication, mind-altering drugs, mysticism, and spiritualism. This third-person "autobiography" is simplistic in style and so unabashed in its self-praise that it is difficult to take seriously. Certainly it fails to convince the reader that its subject is a genius rather than an arrogant eccentric. To Lilly fans, curious about his outrageous activities, perhaps this may not matter.- Laurie Bartolini, Lincoln Lib., Springfield, Ill.Copyright 1990 Reed Business Information, Inc.
