<p>Smith has joined the ranks otselors and psychologists who dar~ therapists, coun-lew frontier in thefield of psychology, which means opening up our own lives as profes-sionals to fashion a dynamic healing model that includes the mind,body and spirit connections. As African Americans, we share a com-mon motherland and history and a collective (Ujima) spiritual-psy-chological counteraction to life's challenges, that has been ourstrength in ages past, and can become our model for filture healingof the African American family. I call George Edmond Smith, M.D. the "daring doctor:" bold, un-afraid, focused, on a mission and filled with the healing spirit of ourancestors. The "medicine man" for our villages, towns and cities. Notonly medicine for the mind, but medicine for the spirit.</p>
