This book is targeted at small-to-medium-sized family owned businesses. It is based upon Pine's experience of working with his son and interviews with other family business owners. Unlike Dennis Jaffe's Working with the Ones You Love ( LJ 9/1/90), which is a workbook with exercises and techniques for a wide range of issues facing family owned and managed businesses, this book emphasizes building harmony with sons and daughters in the business. Much of the work focuses on advice for bringing children into the business, treating children as equal partners, and entry training. Potential conflicts with children and succession are also discussed. While narrower in scope than Jaffe's book, this is nevertheless recommended for business collections.- Jane M.
