From Library Journal This book attempts to cover the subject of nuclear waste briefly and impartially. It describes the sources and nature of radioactive waste, the relevant legislation, and the basic requirements of a waste management program. Unfortunately, while it is brief and impartial, it does not convey adequately the dilemmas faced by those who must find safe ways to deal with nuclear waste for thousands of years. The casual reader is lulled into believing that nuclear waste problems essentially are under control, and the more serious layperson is not sufficiently briefed on the many controversial aspects of the subject. Better works on radioactive waste include Donald Bartlett and James Steele's Forevermore ( LJ 3/1/85) and Charles Walker's Too Hot To Handle ( LJ 3/1/83).
