From Library Journal On December 7, 1941, the lives of all Americans changed. Men prepared to serve their country, leaving women at home to cope as best they could. Most did fairly well. Villars tells of three of these women. Isabelle is a poor litle rich girl searching for her reason for being, who finds her niche as a radio reporter. Eliza turns from a stay-at-home wife and mother into an advertising executive. When Lily's father throws her out, she goes to Hollywood, is discovered, and becomes a movie star. Thrown together by the war, they support each other. Each worries about her man but succumbs to the charms of another. Villars makes her women realistic, caring human beings living in a difficult time. The story is well told, and while readers know what will happen, they will enjoy reading on to find out how all will be resolved.
