With the increased use of transcribing machines and elec-

tronic typewriters, language arts has become an important

aspect of advanced typing instruction. Special emphasis

has been given to developing the typist s ability to find

and correct misspelled words, errors in punctuation, and

other types of language problems that occur in copy to be

typed. Two lO0-word spelling lists, detailed rules of punc-

tuation, and rules for typing numbers and abbreviations

are included for students reference and review. Exercises

with a language arts emphasis are integrated into several

topics and are grouped at the end of the topic for easy

identification. Also included are simple composition exer-

cises as well as assignments designed to encourage inde-

pendent thinking. These appear throughout the text under

the headings Composition at the Keyboard and Creative

Keyboarding, respectively.
