This book consists of a coordinated body of

musical material specifically composed for the

study of sight singing. A mastery of that skill

is essential to the instrumentalist, the singer,

the musicologist, the composer, indeed, to

any musician or intelligent amateur. Ideally,

the young student should be taught sight sing-

ing from the beginning of instrumental or

vocal instruction. Actually, very few students

enjoy the benefits of such early training. Far

too many reach an advanced level of instruc-

tion with little sight singing ability, even when

their performance skills are oll a professional

level. Courses in sight singing, therefore, are a

necessary part of the music curriculum of sec-

ondary schools, conservatories, colleges and

universities.
