Following a tragedy that nearly destroyed him, former New Orleans cop Guy Gautreaux finds refuge in Toussaint, Louisiana. He also meets Jilly Gable, a local restaurateur. As a child, Jilly was abandoned, and desperately wants the family she was meant to have, so when the wife of a powerful New Orleans antiques dealer sweeps into town claiming to be her mother, Jilly immediately accepts her. But something is terribly wrong, and Guy must unearth it before Jilly falls over a precipice.
