作者是海牙国际法庭的法官. 他六岁的时候跟他的父母一起被送进波兰的犹太人隔离区. 四年中,进过两个劳动营,被关进Auschwitz. 一开始跟母亲分开,然后又跟父亲分开. 而最终活下来了. 二战结束后的一年多,又奇迹般地找到了失散三年多的母亲. 不是简单意义上的回忆录,因为年份都不是很清楚. 连作者自己都说,到了老年再来写,很多事情都记不准确. 可读这本书,就象是在听一个老人回忆儿时的事情,那样边想边讲.年代久远,可又那么真实.

真的是仅仅讲述的是童年生活。回顾孩童时期的那些犹如神助一般的死里逃生，Buergenthal日后的法律路径显得那么合理。文字比较平淡，可一看。
