A.S.拜厄特，英国著名女作家、文学评论家。1936年8月24日出生于谢菲尔德。先后毕业于剑桥大学、牛津大学，1972年起在伦敦大学学院教授英语文学。1983年辞去教职专事写作，同年成为英国皇家文学协会会员。1990年，获颁大英帝国司令勋章。1999年，获颁大英帝国女爵士勋章。

主要作品有长篇小说《占有》《天使与昆虫》《传记作家的故事》《孩子们的书》等，以及《蜜糖》《马蒂斯故事》等多部短篇小说集。1990年出版的代表作《占有》荣获布克奖。2009年出版《孩子们的书》。

一部伤感的一战小说，里面有些东西过于沉重了。

喜欢arts and crafts movement的不能错过的书...比Possession内容丰富剧情跌宕但是有点虎头蛇尾

原來我看過這本。但老實說，故事差不多忘光了，原因是書太厚，細節太多，情節不是很緊湊，牽涉的話題很多，容易走神。重新對這個作者產生興趣，是最近看的她寫的幾篇很短的文學評論和序，一針見血，讓我倒抽一口冷氣。

一个英国作家的家庭从维多利亚晚期到第一次世界大战结束之间，家庭发展孩子成长的故事，细细铺陈父母与子女的关系，子女与 peers 的关系，男女群体的关系，穷富阶层的关系，等等。其实是不错的书，但是那种（我以为的）“老式”写法，交待很多很多英国政治文化历史背景，编年史一样的口气，是为把家与个人嵌在国与群体的作用之下，涉及很多我不熟悉的人名书名，还把许多木偶戏细细描述，很多时候有枯燥的感觉，大概是“老奶奶”（74岁了）的作品，比较琐碎平淡的感觉，不知道她以前的作品是否也是这样。
