In Brahm Stoker's Dracula, the character of Lucy does not die after the first bite. Only after enough blood has been drained from her does she die and become one of the undead. Mary Quinn was also not killed after her first bite. She lived. After WWII, Mary had been stationed in Germany where she had a short love affair with a not-so-normal man who left a mark on her that would never go away. But Mary managed to get away, return to the US and live a normal life. She had children, grandchildren, and grew old. Now at eighty, afflicted with Alzhiemeras disease, she tries to convince her sixteen-year-old granddaughter to do the unthinkable to prevent what she knows will happen to her, and all the terror that will come with it. Helen finds the story impossible to believe, however, and must fight for her life and the lives of the innocent people around her to stop her grandmotheras deadliest legacy.
