The Gatecrash story continues as Lisa and the crew of the Catch 22 arrive at the Kadiminar Gateport and, through chance, are joined by a band of Vagarins. Lisa receives a note, and she decides upon their next destination. After picking up Tyrea, a member of the warrior race of Gazelles, they proceed on to find the mysterious gatekey. However, Tyrea must complete her own mission. Meanwhile, Phillip Bender and his team of Terran diplomats travel on to the homeworld of the Nithe, in exchange for his assistance in completing Silxtraeas experiments. Eventually, everyone finds themselves racing to Nimlishi II, the mysterious blue planet, to secure or destroy the alien gatekey.
