伊恩·麦克尤恩（1948—），本科毕业于布莱顿的苏塞克斯大学，于东英吉利大学取得硕士学位。从一九七四年开始，麦克尤恩在伦敦定居，次年发表的第一部中短篇集就得到了毛姆文学奖。此后他的创作生涯便与各类奖项的入围名单互相交织，其中《阿姆斯特丹》获布克奖，《时间中的孩子》获惠特布莱德奖，《赎罪》获全美书评人协会奖。近年来，随着麦克尤恩在主流文学圈获得越来越高的评价，在图书市场上创造越来越可观的销售记录，他已经被公认为英国的“国民作家”，他的名字已经成为当今英语文坛上“奇迹”的同义词。

伊恩在我看来就像是一株曼陀罗①，他的文字和所塑造的每一个故事正如这株植物向阳、喜温热的自然天性，而文字与故事的背后真正的意味所在也就是曼陀罗的黑色魅力。 我想很多人会有和我同样的感受：在读完伊恩的作品之后，内心淫乱一片——就像被一滴墨汁浸染，慢漫而开——...  

之所以借阅这本书有两个原因：一是我把作者麦克尤恩和《白鲸》的作者赫尔曼·麦尔维尔想象成同一个人了；二是因为我前不久才开始认得这个笫字，也多少了解一点这个名词隐含着的那层意思。 这是一次失败的阅读，如果不借助他人的解读，我完全无法判断作者在讲述些什么事情。 ...

have read the Chinese version before but it seems that i've forgotten most of them. But i bet i can't forget it after reading this. so bizzare, sick, and strikening. can't understand to and fro, should go to the Chinese version agian. this must be the most difficult one of him i reckon
