Advanced-level Biology for Hong Kong is a series of four textbooks published in accordance with the Biology Curriculum and Assessment Guide (Advanced Level) jointly prepared by the CDC and the HKEAA in 2002. The Suggested Teaching Sequence "A" has been selected for the series based on a survey of local biology teachers in 2001.
Teachers and students in Hong Kong have long been complaining about the lack of advanced-level biology textbooks specially written according to the local syllabus. After selecting an overseas title, teacher still had to search for missing pieces of information, especially those of local contexts. At the same time, students were taking pains to sort out relevant and irrelevant materials in their books on hand. In view of the situation, great endeavours have been made during writing and editing. The fundamental aim is to cater exactly for local needs.
The new model of the HKALE has been given great attention. A collection of past HKALE and GCE questions is incorporated at the end of each Part, composing mainly of [structured questions] and [essay-type questions]. Short questions in the forms of [fill in the blanks], [matching terms with descriptions], etc., as well as [questions of unfamiliar situations] are especially compiled in the Exercise at the end of each chapter. Students will be thoroughly prepared for the HKALE after going through the exercises and past examination questions provided in the series.
