Gr 9 Up--A look at several issues of the computer age: privacy and encryption, censorship, access, and the effects of technology on society and on education. Each chapter covers a different topic and consists of six or seven articles by different authors, guaranteeing that each issue is analyzed from more than one angle. The articles are short, lively, and easy to read. Some of them, such as Joel Swerdlow s introductory overview, are interesting and cogent. Others are glossy treatments that present a veneer of information. Still, as a timely and unbiased introduction to some basic computer issues, this book satisfies the need for a variety of opinions and could be used to spur thought and possibly research.
