「PIG 05049」在書籍設計和排版上都相當的簡潔明瞭，書的內容十分有趣、吸引人。Christien Meindertsma花了近三年的時間，對一隻在鹿特丹商業農場編號為05049的豬進行全程追蹤，總結出由這隻豬所延伸出的185件產品，其中包括被加工為食品的豬肉，身體各部位更被分解為彈藥、相紙、心臟瓣膜、制動器、陶瓷、洗衣精、化妝品、香煙、香口膠及生化柴油等。作者並沒有對有爭議性的議題發表評論，書籍本身將文字壓縮到最少，大量利用圖表和圖片來做視覺性的陳述。反過頭來，她只說到「為了要好好照顧地球，基本上第一步是去瞭解我們所使用的東西從哪裡來。」由這隻編號05049的豬所牽引出來的發現是相當地驚人。
