與其說是“調色闆的自然史”，不如說是作者尋找顔料的旅行手記，所以無關顔色的廢話相當多，多到想從中提取有用信息都有些障礙重重。個人覺得整本書應該可以精簡到250頁左右。書中還有一些錯誤，書頁margin處有不明數字（推測可能是原版的頁碼）。
