Gitta Thieberger was born in 1934 in Moravska Ostrava, Czechoslovakia.In 1941, Gitta and her mother Tilde, along with Lizzi the magic doll, fled to Russia from their Nazi-occupied homeland.In 1942, ahead of the advancing German army, they were evacuated to Siberia where they remained for the next six years.Following brief periods in Czechoslovakia, Italy and England, Gitta and her mother finally settled in Australia in 1952.Hopefully, somewhere in Russia, Lizzi is still enchanting another generation of children with her magic.
