Our understanding of how mitochondria functionally interact with other cellular organelles and the process of transcription, and how mitochondria detect oxidative modification of macromolecules has improved significantly in the past decade. Importantly, the roles of mitochondria and oxidative stress are also better defined in the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative disorders.
