书里对沟通中发成的问题分析得很全面也很透彻，对于我们倾听中应该尽量避免的问题有好的建议。简而言之就是listen for feelings, don't talk until the feelings are fully released, don't give suggestions. 如果我们知道倾听中会出现什么样的问题，我们沟通中就可以主动调整我们的话语，时机和情绪，使得我们最有效的传递信息。 书的一个缺点就是缺乏一个清晰的结构，有不少心理学背景要求，看得时候有时候会比较费劲。
