The collection was founded by Duke Albert von Sachsen-Teschen from whose name the term Albertina derives. He built a unique collection of drawings and prints in the historical palace on the Augustininan bastion whose splendid interior furnishings reflect the taste of Duke Albert and the subsequent Habsburg owners.
