This story is about Paul Roberts, a man in his mid-thirties who has completed operational service with the SAS and who now has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Acute Delusional Disorder (Persecutory Type). The army invested time and effort in training him but did not 'switch him off'. The Department of Veteran Affairs accepts that his condition is service related, and his psychiatrist offers to admit him to hospital for treatment. As the story continues, we discover that Paul has no intentions of going to hospital and instead stages a daring night-time raid of the Veteran Affairs Commissioner's Office, where he takes files proving that the department is avoiding paying veterans their entitlements. He has a series of PTSD flashbacks. The story then takes the reader to 10 years prior when Paul is training to become an elite SAS soldier. There are tales of hardship and mateship, and Paul's memories continue to the time of the Blackhawk disaster, when he saw his friends die in the tragic accident but felt totally numb, with no pain or tears. The story continues to the present day when Paul takes the Veteran Affairs Commissioner and staff hostage, demanding that pay-outs and pensions to veterans be authorised.
