Terunga, the main character, has been sentenced for imprisonment on Tahiti, the main island of the Society Archipelago, by great injustice. He manages to escape many times out of prison, but cannot find a way to leave the island and is recaptured. Finally, he manages to get a hold of a small outrigger canoe. After a journey of more than 600 miles across the open ocean, he arrives at his home island, Manukura of the Tuamotu Archipelago, to reunite with his family. A typhoon is approaching and wipes out the entire population of Manukura. Will Terunga and his familysurvive? Will his innocence ever be proven so that he and his family can live in peace?
