In 1945, Second Lieutenant Jack Broughton graduated from West point with the silver wings of a newly commissioned officer of the Army Air Corps. Nearly thirty years later, he retired as a full Colonel in the US Air Force, an entity that did not even exist when he first joined up and learnt to fly. Along the way, Broughton saw duty in every fighter aircraft the Air Corps and then the Air Force had to offer. He experienced the birth and coming of age of the US Air Force, and bloody combat in both Korea and Vietnam. In his third book on his flying career, Colonel Broughton offers readers what is virtually a history of the US Air Force as experienced by one of it's finest combat leaders. From his initial tour of duty in post-war Germany flying P-47 and P-51, to air-to-air combat in Korea and his Thunderbird command Vietnam, Broughton describes what it is like to meet the enemy in combat, and to fly some of the best-known combat aircraft in history.
