The term, 'global economy,' has clear meaning for most people; it is associated with issues such as international trade and finance, investment and development, and the political economy of the international market economy. This volume would expand and go behind this standard economic framework by treating the term 'global social economy' as comprehending issues such as: the relation of capitalism to human flourishing; the role of international governance in the world economy; the transformation of work and use of time in internationalizing economies; cross-country developments in gender, poverty, and ageing ethics; and, economic policy issues in the international economy. Social economics concerns the way in which economic life is framed by society and social relationships. It investigates how social values views about well being, discrimination, justice, personal development, democracy, social responsibility, etc. influence and help determine economic values such as prices, incomes, rates of return, wealth, etc. The chapters in this book apply social economic analysis to issues in the international economy that are often framed in purely economic terms.
