William Dunham，俄亥俄州立大学硕士和博士毕业，现为美国穆伦堡学院教授，世界知名的数学史专家。他分别于1992年、1997年、2006年获得美国数学协会颁发的George Polya奖、Trevor Evans 奖和Lester R. Ford奖。Dunham教授著述颇丰，除本书外，还著有《The Mathematical Universe: An Alphabetical Journey Through the Great Proofs, Problems, and Personalities》（数学那些事儿：思想、发现、人物和历史）等广受好评的科普著作。

带这本书到办公室，被赞”连这种书都读“，可见封面和书名是多么的不友好……所以，如果不是硬核人士推荐，我八成也不会硬啃，对，对方用的词是”启迪智慧，开启人生方向“，摊手。 其实真的开始看了，发现还是啃得下去的，虽然讲的是硬核数学，每章也都有公式推导，但是我保证...  

很简约的写一些数学定理的故事，从最基础的毕达格拉斯定律到微积分的伯努利定律。不念高等数学已经五年了的我竟然还记得有个定律叫伯努利，完全是这本书的功劳。 写得很简约，但是引人入胜。
