三個案件和一個謎題，再次對作者的野心錶示敬意。因此也放大瞭寫作上的缺陷，鐵血大案不適閤用過於迂迴溫婉的方式錶現，兩個成年男性的對話也不該溫柔純良得像幼童和大人，揭穿的一刻是震撼，一再重復抒情卻使該被同情的變得極其膩歪後麵都希望能黑化一下。主綫陌生人裏的罪案和魁省曆史，主要在翻故紙堆，還是三鬆鎮人倫慘變有親切感，但上集摺騰瞭一本沒解決的案件給波伏娃這水平的想吧想吧就破瞭科學麼。

來到Three Pines Mystery係列第六本，作者野心更大，今次竟然有三條故事線！主線是Gamache在休假時查的一單案，一個緻力搜尋魁北剋城的建立者Samuel de Champlain遺體的狂人在Literary and Historical Society of Quebec被殺。因為這個會屬於魁北剋的英語社群，英文好的Gamache被邀幫忙。第二條線是上一集的謀殺案，雖然「殺人犯」已入獄，但案件仍有疑點，同樣在休假的Gamache副手Jean Guy Beauvoi再到三鬆村秘密查案。而為何他們一同放假？是因為早前發生的一單大案，令他們身心受創，更有同僚不幸身亡...... 這是第三條故事線。主線是個歷史推理故事，而那單為Gamache帶來考驗的案件，是最印人入。
