第四本耶茨的原版书。他惯于写这样的女人，外强中干，衰弱又不得不负隅顽抗，在夹缝中为自己制造乐观的幻觉。这本里的Alice依然如此，令人疲惫的观感，几乎想放弃。但Bobby的心理描写太传神太戳到我的神经，结尾又是我喜欢的一笔，是我认为他该做的决定。

母子粉尘中跋涉一段可能是耶茨写过最暖的篇章，Bobby离开军营前的释然、Alice对未来的憧憬刚让人产生HE的错觉，末页寥寥几句人物结局交代又将小说拉回耶茨“生活裂痕”的套路。

could be patched up as vague series with Yates' other work ,such as Young Hearts crying and Liars in Love.pursuing art is too costly and most crude,even for the utmost optimistic visionary,without inexhaustible fortune,it can be nothing but a long shot,and ends in self-decepting vain.
