Professor of the History of the Church at Oxford University, he was brought up in a country rectory in East Anglia.

從五月初到現在，斷斷續續看瞭四個半月，不是很好懂，並不是一味的平鋪直敘，作為曆史書這樣反而更看不下去。不過還是佩服作者的詳實和仔細。無從評價這本書，隻能拜讀，要說記住瞭多少也實在是慚愧，隻能說記住瞭一些名字和時代和他們之間的關聯罷瞭。
