This book takes a more theoretical and quantitative approach than other books in the subfield of language variation, which may focus more on cultural issues, or on specific 'case study' languages. Other books also focus more on the methodology and or statistics, but with very little on theory. Professor Walker is very well-known and respected. The reviewers would buy the book unseen simply because of the author.
