大学时期，有几件未完成的事项一直耿耿于怀。总觉得这些事情没完成，就还没有毕业。没读完这本书是其中一项。我还记得在图书馆读到Ramadhin去世那章……那段时间身体很不好，每天吞24粒药保证睡眠。那一章带给我的惆怅感，在那天和长久以来精神上的重压重合在了一起，所以我放下了这本书。这次我读完了这本书。Michael Ondaatje的作品都有相似的情绪，他的气质太卓绝。说实话，我一直认为他的很多作品，是为了解决自己的问题，为了解决一个飘渺、游离的自我问题。Emily是怎么说来着？"we all became adults before we were adults."

可以和巴恩斯的《终结的意义》对照来读，这本书就是《开始的意义》。当然，是一段人生的开始。一本略显乏味的小书，不是昂达奇的最高水准。
