个人回忆录加学术史回顾，展现了20世纪以来非洲史职业化的过程和学术发展。这样的作品也只有纵横三大洲的第一代非洲史学家范西纳有资格和能力写。另外，学术做得牛就是有底气，能时不时用辞职来达成目标。可惜整体学术发展、个人经历和学术研究三条线稍显混乱，如果能更好地整合在一起可能更好读。
