比高-华《红太-阳》早半年出版。在出版之前，欧美和两岸三地的红史研究者很大程度上接受了官方“两条路线”之说，此书通过严谨考据，证明“28人”或“王明路线”作为一股势力几乎并不存在，太祖与他们的博弈也并不重要。抽丝剥茧后，周相的角色浮出水面。太祖的绝对领导地位之确立不是在1935或1938，而是延安整风后的1943。这些结论现在来看是常识，但在本书面市之前却很少被重视。本书的一个连带观点是：整风前，太祖地位的逐渐上升与其本人权谋关系不大，主要是因为其竞争者和阻碍者们在不同时期都犯了不同的军事错误，因此丧失了博弈资本。在世纪之交，高-华、黄靖和本书作者在中、美、德 独立地几乎同时得到相似结论，整风的权力博弈意义与君相恩怨恐为定论。因篇幅所限，本书疏于博弈细节：高-华若是金庸，此作者大概是古龙吧！
