這個係列的第三本看完瞭，心裏仍然覺得這是一個不像前兩個一樣那麼精彩的故事。一切都變得那麼暗沉，甚至平淡：Sparrowhawk如得道高僧一般，心理裝著的智慧甚至都沒有其他人能理解，然而人們又都願意相信他做的是對的事情。Arren則像一個stereotypical的“英雄”，有後颱有高貴...

勒古恩最擅長寫漫長的旅程，在追尋和詰問中的自我的觀照。如果說黑暗的左手這旅程的終點是文明和理念的理解和交融，地海的第三部的終點則落在個體的生死。很沉重的主題，但依然寫得如此美妙，如此感動。旅程中那些動人的片段仿佛我也一起親曆，那瘋狂的小鎮，那世界盡頭海洋上的星辰，那生活在木筏上的居民，那黑暗的彼界，最後當飛翔的巨龍載著Ged和少年帝王迴到故鄉，忍不住心頭泛起一陣陣感動。

看第一部的感覺是震撼，因大法師崛起的故事讓自己年輕的心神往；第二部是躁動，因男女主人公懵懵懂懂的情絲；第三部是壓抑，因本書主要討論死生大事，讀得並不輕鬆。
