在看《当知识分子遇上政治》时，想起了这本很久以前读的书。时期上，前书讨论福柯时，引用的大都是这本传记。中文翻译十分雅驯，是我所见过的极好的翻译。书很厚，却可以24小时读完——因为太吸引人，一直读到天亮。

忍不住还是找来英文版翻了翻。对于福柯而言，以生命写作，将自我作为一件艺术品来塑造。“每次当我试图去进行一项理论工作时，这项工作的基础总是来自我个人的经验，它总是和我在我的周围看到的那些事情有关。事实上，正是因为我觉得在我关注的事物中，在我去打交道的制度中，在我与他人的关系中，我发现了某种破裂的东西，某种单调灰暗的不和谐之处或运转失调的地方，我就会着手撰写一部著作，它实际上是一部自传的几个片断。”（1981）另：上次课上跟学生说，这是目前最好看的一本福柯传记文学（满足各窥探福柯个人各种八卦花边新闻的好奇心）。也不知道他们会不会主动去找来看看讷～
